The Venice International Film Festival is the oldest film festival in the world. The first edition was held in 1932 and since then it was organized by the Biennale, one of the most famous cultural institutions in the world.
The Venice Film Festival takes place every year on the Lido of Venice, in the historic Palazzo del Cinema and neighboring buildings, between the end of August and the first week of September. For ten days the Lido is transformed into the center of the world with many international stars on the catwalk.
In addition to a full calendar of film productions that you can access with a simple ticket, are also organized events of all kinds which is easy to participate by walking around the festival area: aperitifs, presentations, ceremonies.
The main prize awarded during the Festival is undoubtedly the “Golden Lion”, which owes its name to the symbol of the city, the winged lion of the Basilica of San Marco. This award is considered one of the most important from the point of view of film critics, like those awarded in the other two major European film festivals, the Palme d’Or of the Cannes Film Festival and the Golden Bear of the Berlin International Film Festival.
The 78th edition of the Venice Film Festival will be held from September 1 to 11, 2021. In case you want to know the complete official program of the film screenings of the next Venice Film Festival, just go to the official website by clicking here.
