The Carnival of Venice: an event awaited and experienced by thousands of people who are preparing to paint the lagoon city filling it with colors, sounds, merriment, masks and parties.
The 2022 edition of the Venice Carnival officially starts on February 12th and ends on Tuesday, March 1st. In the streets and squares of Venice take place every day the traditional parades and masquerade parties, but the most interesting events are:
- February 13, 2022: party on the water in Rio Cannaregio – The Cannaregio canal bordering the Jewish quarter becomes a huge floating stage. A show of music and images that officially inaugurate the Venetian Carnival in a scenic and fun way.
- February 19, 2022: feast of the “Marie” – A long-awaited parade that celebrates the custom of the Doge to give 12 beautiful girls of humble origins gifts and jewelry as dowry to be able to marry. It starts from San Piero di Castello, goes along Via Garibaldi, until it arrives in Riva degli Schiavoni, on the Grand Canal and finally in Piazza San Marco.
- February 20, 2022: Flight of the Angel – This is one of the most awaited and popular events. Today the winner of the beauty contest of the Marie of the previous edition takes flight. Protected, of course, by a rope with a safety harness, the young woman jumps from the Bell Tower in front of the Basilica of San Marco to reach the stage in Piazza San Marco.
- February 27, 2022: Flight of the Eagle – An event that wants to be a recognition to the sport champions. In past editions, to perform the spectacular launch were Kristian Ghedina, Arianna Fontana, Carolina Kostner, Francesca Piccinini, Fabrizia d’Ottavio and Giusy Versace. The identity of the 2022 Eagle has not yet been revealed.
- February 27, 2022: final of the contest “The most beautiful mask” – The Carnival of Venice is famous throughout the world for the beauty, originality and complexity of disguises and masks. The most beautiful mask of the 2022 edition will be elected in Piazza San Marco.
- March 1, 2022: award ceremony of the most beautiful “Marie” – The last day of the event will be named the new most beautiful “Mary” of the Carnival of Venice. It will be her next year to take the flight of the angel and she will be the female face of this festivity.
- March 1, 2022: “Svolo del Leon” (Lion’s flight) – The symbol of Venice officially concludes these days of celebration and joy. An enormous flag with the winged lion of St. Mark is symbolically hoisted on top of the Campanile. A program of great scenic effect loved by the Venetians and accompanied by impressive music.
