In collaboration with the Fundación Juan March of Madrid, the Fundación Archivo Manuel de Falla of Granada, and the CNC of Paris, Palazzetto Bru Zane is pleased to present a cine-concert of L’Enfant prodigue (The Prodigal Son) on Tuesday, November 12, 2024. This Italian-language performance, with music by André Wormser, will be introduced by Prof. Paolo Pinamonti and accompanied by pianist Juan Carlos Garvayo.
The event highlights an important chapter in the life of Spanish composer Manuel de Falla, who moved to Paris in 1907 to expand his musical knowledge. That same summer, de Falla, facing financial difficulties, joined a touring theater company as a pianist. He performed Wormser’s music for the pantomime L’Enfant prodigue, which was a great success, starring the renowned Paris Opera ballerina Emma Sandrini. The overwhelming reception of the production inspired filmmaker Michel Carré to create two films based on the story—one in 1906, a pioneering work in early cinema, and another in 1916, both using Wormser’s composition.
During the cine-concert, attendees will experience the 1916 version of Carré’s L’Enfant prodigue alongside Wormser’s evocative music. This unique event offers a glimpse into the intersection of music and film in the early 20th century, showcasing the rich collaboration between various art forms. Don’t miss this extraordinary fusion of cinema and live performance at Palazzetto Bru Zane.
