A lecture on “The Nutcracker” with archival video projections will be held on Monday, Dec. 12, 2022, in the Sale Apollinee of La Fenice Theater.
“The Nutcracker” is based on a fairy tale (The Nutcracker and the Mouse King) by Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann, reinterpreted by Frenchman Alexandre Dumas.
French dancer and choreographer Victor Marius Alphonse Petipa transformed the fairy tale into a ballet that was first staged at the Marinsky Theater in St. Petersburg on December 6, 1892. The music is by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
Belgian choreographer Jeroen Verbruggen has proposed an original and unprecedented staging of it, with changes to the original score that generate dynamism and balance.
The lecture is free admission, subject to availability. Franco Bolletta, artistic and organizational manager of dance activities at the Fondazione Teatro La Fenice, will present.
