From January 15 to 19, 2025, Teatro La Fenice will host the captivating ballet Romeo and Juliet, choreographed by the legendary John Neumeier. Featuring the internationally acclaimed Hamburg Ballet, with stunning sets and costumes designed by Jürgen Rose, this production will immerse audiences in a poignant retelling of Shakespeare’s iconic tragedy. The Orchestra del Teatro La Fenice, under the baton of Markus Lehtinen, will bring Sergei Prokofiev’s unforgettable score to life.

This marks the Venetian debut of Neumeier’s celebrated Romeo and Juliet, a ballet that premiered in Frankfurt on February 14, 1971, as his first full-length choreography. Known for his ability to humanize classical characters, Neumeier delves into the emotional and psychological depths of Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers. Rose’s designs transport the audience to a richly atmospheric medieval Verona, providing a lavish backdrop for the ballet’s evocative choreography and themes of love, fate, and longing.

The Hamburg Ballet’s return to La Fenice underscores a cherished collaboration spanning nearly five decades. Since their first appearance in 1975, the company has graced this iconic stage six times, most recently in 2023 with La Dame aux camélias, also under Neumeier’s direction.

Don’t miss this extraordinary union of dance, music, and theatrical artistry, as one of the world’s most celebrated dance companies breathes new life into a timeless tale of passion and destiny.
