Until October 1, 2023, the Fortuny Museum will host a unique exhibition entitled “Riflessioni notturne” (Night Reflections). The exhibition features ten unpublished pictorial works by Giovanni Soccol, which create a space marked by a constant rhythm that gives unity to the whole. The theme of the exhibition stems from the vision of Venetian architecture rising from the water and dissolving as it reflects. Soccol wanted to represent the fascination of an apparition that can vanish, belonging more to a dream than to reality.
The paintings are not presented in a perspective view but are projected orthogonally to the canvas, giving the architectures a metaphysical atmosphere. The nocturnal light connects and unites the elements, adding to the spiritual nature of the works. The subject of the series consists of ten architectures-symbols facing the Grand Canal, each of which aroused a particular interest in Soccol, resolved in a formal and spiritual dialogue.
Measuring 200 cm high by 150 cm wide, the canvases are painted in mixed media, prepared directly in the artist’s atelier using traditional historical methodologies. The result is a series of fascinating and visually striking paintings that capture the essence of Venetian architecture and its reflection on the water.
The “Night Reflections” exhibition offers a unique opportunity to explore the works of Giovanni Soccol and to reflect on the significance of Venetian architecture. The exhibition promises to be a thought-provoking and engaging experience for art enthusiasts and anyone interested in the history and culture of Venice. So, don’t miss the chance to visit the Fortuny Museum and immerse yourself in the enchanting world of “Night Reflections“.
