The Fondazione Teatro La Fenice is staging a new production of Giuseppe Verdi’s “Otello” at the iconic La Fenice Opera House from November 20 to December 1, 2024. This monumental work, based on Shakespeare’s play Othello, is one of Verdi’s greatest operas, depicting the tragic downfall of the noble Moorish general, Othello, through jealousy and betrayal.

Under the baton of renowned conductor Myung-Whun Chung, the Teatro La Fenice Orchestra and Chorus will bring this powerful drama to life, with Alfonso Caiani leading the chorus. The Piccoli Cantori Veneziani children’s choir will be directed by Diana D’Alessio and Elena Rossi.

This visually stunning production is directed by Fabio Ceresa, with Massimo Checchetto creating the striking stage designs, Claudia Pernigotti designing the evocative costumes, and Fabio Barettin managing the lighting design to enhance the dramatic intensity.

The artistic cast includes Francesco Meli as Otello, Karah Son as Desdemona, and Luca Micheletti as the villainous Jago. Supporting roles feature Francesco Marsiglia (Cassio), Enrico Casari (Roderigo), Francesco Milanese (Lodovico), William Corrò (Montano), and Anna Malavasi as Emilia.

Verdi’s “Otello” is a deeply emotional opera filled with themes of love, jealousy, and deception. The dramatic tension and rich orchestration make this production an unmissable highlight of Venice’s cultural season, promising a captivating blend of music and theatrical spectacle.
