The Sale Apollinee of La Fenice Opera House welcomes the extraordinary pianist Nitai Hershkovits for an evening of unparalleled musical exploration on March 8, 2025.
Born to a Moroccan mother and a Polish father, Hershkovits’ musical journey is a blend of cultural richness and artistic evolution. Starting with the clarinet, he transitioned to the piano at age 15, quickly immersing himself in the world of jazz and improvised music. His early influences included jazz legend Sonny Rollins, and his studies with luminaries like Omer Avital and Avishai Cohen further honed his craft. After a stint in New York, Hershkovits now resides in Israel, continuing to push the boundaries of musical expression.
His latest album, “Call on the Old Wise”, marks his debut as a solo artist with the prestigious ECM label. This largely improvised release showcases Hershkovits’ exceptional ability to merge influences from jazz, contemporary music, and his classical roots. The result is a mesmerizing tapestry of colors, textures, and forms, where each improvisation unfolds like a masterful composition created in real time.
Recorded in Lugano in 2022 and produced by Manfred Eicher, the album is a standout in ECM’s storied history of solo piano recordings. It follows Hershkovits’ celebrated contributions to the Oded Tzur Quartet on acclaimed albums like Here Be Dragons (2020) and Isabela (2022).
Don’t miss this intimate concert, a rare chance to experience the artistry of one of today’s most inventive pianists.
