The Fondazione Teatro La Fenice in Venice offers on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 in the Sale Apollinee, a tribute to Maya Plisetskaya, a portrait of an absolute prima ballerina.
Maya Plisetskaya was a Soviet ballerina, credited among the greatest dancers of the contemporary era. From her beginnings, Maya stood out among all others for her technical precision and unparalleled dramatic tension. Her talents earned her proclamation as prima ballerina assoluta in 1960; before her, only the great Galina Ulanova had been awarded the prestigious title.
The piece that is perhaps most closely associated with Maya’s name is The Dying Swan. She, as delicate and poignant as any, seemed to soar on her pointe and fly in it, guided by the intensely fluid movement of her arms.
The lecture with archival video projections traces the highlights of the life of this very great étoile. It is free admission and is given by Franco Bolletta, artistic and organizational head of dance activities at the Fondazione Teatro La Fenice.
