From October 14, 2023, to March 18, 2024, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection presents the first major solo exhibition dedicated to Duchamp, one of the most influential artists of the twentieth century and a cherished friend and adviser to the American patron Peggy Guggenheim.
Curated by Paul B. Franklin, an eminent expert on Duchamp residing in Paris, the “Marcel Duchamp and the Lure of the Copy” exhibition features around sixty works spanning from 1911 to 1968. Discover iconic pieces from the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, such as “Nude (sketch)”, “Sad young man on a train” (1911), and “Box in a suitcase” (1935-41). The display also includes masterpieces from esteemed Italian and American museums, like the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Rome, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York. Additionally, lesser-known works from Duchamp’s Estate and private collections will be showcased, adding depth and intrigue to the exhibition.
