Curated by Luca Berta and Francesca Giubilei, with support from Galleria Continua and collaboration with VeniceArtFactory, Ca’ Rezzonico – the Museum of Eighteenth Century Venice presents “Loris Cecchini. Leaps, gaps and overlapping diagrams” from 21 September 2024 to 31 March 2025. This exhibition showcases the evolution of Loris Cecchini’s modular sculptures, a practice he has developed over the past two decades by integrating nature, science, and art.
Cecchini’s works, characterized by their branching and proliferating forms, break away from traditional Euclidean geometry in sculpture, enabled by advancements in three-dimensional modeling technology. His modular pieces interact with their environment, making them inherently site-specific.
The exhibition at Ca’ Rezzonico establishes a dialogue between Cecchini’s contemporary sculptures and the historical context of the museum. The placement of his works among the masterful frescoes by Giambattista Tiepolo and others adds a layer of interaction, reflecting a shared desire to transcend architectural constraints. While Tiepolo’s frescoes use illusion to break through spatial limitations, Cecchini’s sculptures achieve this through abstraction and the elimination of traditional form.
Cecchini’s installations, made from steel, aluminum, and resin, explore the boundaries between inside and outside, center and periphery, and form and formlessness. His granular aluminum castings and two-dimensional resin works evoke natural patterns on both microscopic and macroscopic scales. By celebrating the unpredictable geometries of nature, Cecchini rethinks and redefines the essence of sculpture.
This exhibition invites viewers to engage with the interplay of contemporary art and historical architecture, appreciating the continuous evolution of form and space in artistic expression.
