La Fille du Regiment in Fenice

La Fille du regiment” is an opera by composer Gaetano Donizetti to a libretto by Jean-François-Alfred Bayard and Jules-Henri Vernoy de Saint-Georges that will be staged at La Fenice Theater from October 14 to 22, 2022.

Written for Paris in 1840, “La Fille du régiment” is among the best operatic comedies of all time. Set in the Tyrolean Alps, it tells the adventures of Marie, an intrepid young orphan raised as a canteen-girl by a regiment of Napoleonic soldiers. When the man of her dreams is suspected as a spy opposing the French occupier, Marie will have to overcome war, the disapproval of her many ‘fathers‘, and even the discovery of her own noble birth to make her own happy ending come true. With the infectious melodies, hilarious humor, and insane vocal virtuosity, this romantic triumph of love is a delight for audiences of all ages.

Conductor of the Teatro La Fenice Orchestra is Stefano Ranzani, and choirmaster Alfonso Caiani, while direction, sets and costumes are by Barbe & Doucet. The artistic cast includes: Maria Grazia Schiavo (Marie), Natasha Petrinsky (Marquise de Berkenfield), Marisa Laurito (Duchesse Krakenthorp), John Osborn (Tonio), Armando Noguera (Sulpice), Guillaume Andrieux (Hortensius).
