From March 7 to 15, 2025, the Malibran Theatre will commemorate the 300th anniversary of Alessandro Scarlatti’s death with a new production of Il trionfo dell’onore, presented by the Fondazione Teatro La Fenice. This performance, featuring Italian surtitles, promises a unique celebration of Scarlatti’s genius and legacy.
Il trionfo dell’onore (The Triumph of Honor), Scarlatti’s only comic opera, offers a fresh take on the Don Giovanni archetype through the character of Riccardo Albenori, a wayward libertine who ultimately reforms. Premiered in Naples in 1718, the opera was groundbreaking, introducing a new model of opera buffa with a coherent structure and characters speaking Tuscan dialect, breaking from the tradition of Neapolitan dialect.
The intricate interplay of four couples allows for captivating ensemble pieces, culminating in a masterful concertato at the close of Act II. Scarlatti’s innovations paved the way for successors like Pergolesi, solidifying his pivotal role in the evolution of Neapolitan opera.
This production is brought to life by the Orchestra of Teatro La Fenice, conducted by Enrico Onofri, and directed by Stefano Vizioli.
