From November 29 to December 1, 2024, the Teatro Goldoni will present “I Saw Light”, a new production by the Rimini-based theater company Motus, founded in 1991 by Enrico Casagrande and Daniela Nicolò. This innovative project pays tribute to the work of British poet and musician Kae Tempest.
“I Saw Light” involves ten young actors and actresses from the Carlo Goldoni Theater Academy (Francesca Accolla, Teresa Bisoni, Elena Folgoni, Lorenzo Paderno, Simone Pedini, Natanaele Pogliaghi, Laura Taddeo, Giuseppe Tammaro, Stefano Vannacci, and Andrea Zani), created in collaboration with the Teatro Stabile del Veneto. The project draws inspiration from Kae Tempest’s song of the same name from her latest album, “The Line Is a Curve”. This powerful song, performed with Grian Chatten, lead singer of Fontaines D.C., explores deep and emotional themes, similar to those portrayed in Motus’ previous production, “Frankenstein (a love story)”.
The connection between “I Saw Light” and their recent Frankenstein production reflects Motus’ continued exploration of finding light in dark, threatening narratives, like the one in Mary Shelley’s novel. In “I Saw Light,” the young performers aim to capture the beauty, vulnerability, and emotional depth that characterize Tempest’s works, pushing boundaries in both storytelling and performance art.
Motus is known for its innovative and provocative theater, and this new production promises to be a reflective and powerful tribute to Tempest’s creative legacy.
