Curated by Elisabetta Barisoni and Michele Beraldo, the Ca’ Pesaro International Gallery of Modern Art proudly presents “Homage to Ennio Finzi”, an exhibition running until 6 October 2024. This exhibition celebrates Ennio Finzi, a pivotal figure in the evolution of abstract art in Italy and a significant contributor to the post-war art scene.
Born in Venice in 1931, Finzi is renowned for his innovative approach to abstract art, characterized by a unique exploration of color’s atonal and timbral values. His work, described by Luciano Caramel as “irritual”, diverged from the traditional informal language of the era, presenting a radical and contemplative perspective on color and form.
The exhibition highlights some of Finzi’s most emblematic works from the 1950s, a period during which he developed his distinctive style. Among the showcased pieces are the “Scale cromatiche“, which feature geometric compositions where colors appear intermittently within vertical bands, creating a rhythmic visual experience. Another notable work, “Ritmi vibrazione“, depicts yellow hues flowing in thin, thread-like patterns, conveying a sense of temporal progressivity and dynamic movement.
Additionally, the exhibition includes “Bianco su bianco” and “Grigio su grigio“, masterpieces where light emerges as a spiritual element, subtly revealing the delicate and indistinct boundaries of the material. These works exemplify Finzi’s meticulous investigation into the intrinsic structures of form, aiming to reconcile and transform his own artistic contradictions.
By dedicating a room in its permanent collection to Ennio Finzi, Ca’ Pesaro continues its mission to valorize the significant authors within its civic collections. “Homage to Ennio Finzi” offers a profound insight into the artist’s innovative legacy, celebrating his contribution to abstract art and his enduring influence on contemporary artistic discourse.
