Gregory Porter

On the occasion of the 16th edition of the “Venezia Jazz Festival”, Gregory Porter’s concert will be held at the Teatro La Fenice on Tuesday, 9 July 2024. The acclaimed vocalist, known for his soulful baritone voice, will grace the stage in his only Italian performance for the year, presented by Veneto Jazz. In addition to the vocalist, the group includes: Tivon Pennicott (sax | horn), Chip Crawford (piano), Jahmal Nichols (bass), Emanuel Harrold (drums), Ondrej Pivec (Hammond organ).

Gregory Porter has become an international sensation, earning two Grammy Awards and captivating audiences worldwide with his unique blend of jazz, soul, and gospel. Born in Bakersfield, California, Porter’s early influences include the Bakersfield Southern Gospel sound and his mother’s cherished Nat King Cole records. His musical journey began in San Diego jazz clubs during his university years, where he attended San Diego State University on a football scholarship.

Porter’s career took off with the release of his first two albums, “Water” (2010) and “Be Good” (2012), both Grammy-nominated. His breakthrough came with his Blue Note debut, “Liquid Spirit” (2013), which sold over a million copies and earned him his first Grammy Award, leading NPR to proclaim him “America’s Next Great Jazz Singer”. His follow-up album, “Take Me To The Alley” (2016), won him a second Grammy and solidified his status as a leading figure in contemporary jazz.

In 2017, Porter released “Nat King Cole & Me”, a heartfelt tribute to his musical hero, followed by the Grammy-nominated “All Rise” in 2020, which marked a return to his original compositions. His 2021 compilation album “Still Rising” featured new songs, covers, duets, and his most beloved hits. In 2023, Porter released his first Christmas album, “Christmas Wish”, adding to his impressive discography.

Porter’s performance at the Teatro La Fenice promises to be an unforgettable evening, showcasing his rich, emotive voice and the compelling blend of genres that have made him a global star. Don’t miss this extraordinary opportunity to experience Gregory Porter’s unparalleled artistry live in Venice.
