From January 24 to 26, 2025, the Goldoni Theater will host Arturo Cirillo’s bold adaptation of “Don Giovanni”, a masterpiece that merges Molière’s prose, Da Ponte’s poetry, and Mozart’s music. Directed by Cirillo, who also stars in the production, the cast includes talented performers Irene Ciani, Rosario Giglio, Francesco Petruzzelli, Giulia Trippetta, and Giacomo Vigentini.
Cirillo reimagines the timeless myth of Don Giovanni, one of Western culture’s most enduring and complex characters. Don Giovanni embodies the libertine, the seducer, and the blasphemer—an enigmatic figure rooted in the Spanish, French, and Italian traditions of the 18th century. This production blends the comic paradoxes of Molière’s text with the poetry and lightness of Da Ponte’s libretto, while honoring Mozart’s music, rich with both grace and tragedy.
Cirillo’s adaptation employs a mix of theatrical forms and styles, embracing Molière’s absurdist humor and the operatic elegance of Mozart and Da Ponte. Through this interplay of codes, the production captures Don Giovanni’s relentless pursuit of seduction and play—a cycle that begins anew each time, driving him to his inevitable demise.
This innovative staging promises a fresh perspective on a timeless tale, offering both laughter and profound reflection. Don’t miss the chance to experience this captivating blend of theater and opera that breathes new life into the legend of Don Giovanni.
