As part of the “Venezia Jazz Festival Fall Edition,” Canberk Ulas will perform his concert “Echoes of Becoming” on November 23, 2024, at the Auditorium Lo Squero, Fondazione Giorgio Cini, located on the Isola di San Giorgio Maggiore.
A Turkish duduk player now living in Sweden, Canberk Ulaş is known for his ability to explore new sonic realms by blending Turkish traditions with the rich musical heritage of Anatolia, Armenia, and the Ottoman Empire, all while offering a contemporary twist. Rooted in the technical virtuosity of the Armenian duduk tradition, Ulaş expands its boundaries by incorporating electronic elements, creating a soundscape that is both ancient and modern. His unique approach emphasizes spaciousness, slowing the flow of time and evoking melodies from deep historical roots into the present, resulting in a meditative, immersive experience.
In 2024, Ulaş released his latest solo album, which features collaborations with renowned Norwegian musicians such as Arve Henriksen, Eivind Aarset, Bugge Wesseltoft, and Jan Bang. The album received high praise from prominent music publications across Europe, further establishing Ulaş as a unique voice in contemporary music. His performance at the Venezia Jazz Festival will offer listeners a contemplative journey, exploring the delicate balance between tradition and modernity, introspection, and connection.
