Biennale Musica 2023

The 67th International Festival of Contemporary Music titled “Micro-Music” (Biennale Musica 2023) takes center stage from October 16 to 29, 2023. This remarkable event, under the direction of Lucia Ronchetti, promises to immerse audiences in the realm of digital sound, offering a diverse and innovative program of stylistic trends and creative research from the global music scene.

The festival’s focus on digital sound will be presented through installation, performative, and online forms, featuring many world premieres commissioned by the esteemed Venice Biennale and co-produced with renowned international festivals.

A significant highlight of the festival is the inclusion of Biennale College Musica as an integrated project, enhancing the conception of Biennale Musica 2023. The “Digital Sound Horizons” section, featuring ten new productions from Biennale College Musica, will explore the boundaries of the interaction between science, technology, and musical creativity, showcasing present and future innovations in the field.

In recognition of their outstanding contributions to the field of digital sound, two remarkable artists will be honored:

  • Brian Eno, the accomplished composer, musician, producer, and visual artist, will be awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement. His research into the quality, beauty, and diffusion of digital sound, as well as his unique conception of acoustic space as a compositional tool, have profoundly influenced the world of music.
  • Miller Puckette, the brilliant mathematician, programmer, theorist, and performer, will receive the Silver Lion. His pioneering work in conceiving and developing the Max/Msp and Pure Data software has provided countless composers, musicians, and multimedia artists with unprecedented possibilities in their creative pursuits.

Join us for the award ceremonies and engaging conversations with these luminaries in the world of music. The festival will take place at the esteemed venue of Ca’ Giustinian, and you won’t want to miss this opportunity to delve into the captivating charm and expressive richness of digital sound. Be a part of the 67th International Festival of Contemporary Music, where micro-music showcases the grandeur of innovation and creativity!
