Experience the essence of Commedia dell’Arte at the Goldoni Theater from February 8th to 13th, 2024, with “Arlecchino muto per spavento” (Harlequin Silent for Fear). This revival captures the vibrant legacy of Italian theater, paying homage to its ability to transform limitations into artistic innovation.
Set in Paris during the early 18th century, the play revisits a significant era when Italian comedians, led by Luigi Riccoboni (known as Lelio), reclaimed their prominence in Parisian theater. However, the arrival of Harlequin, portrayed by Tommaso Visentini from Vicenza, brought a challenge – he couldn’t speak French. Riccoboni ingeniously crafted a narrative twist, making Harlequin silent out of sheer fright!
Stivalaccio Teatro presents a troupe of nine talented actors, celebrating the art of performance. The play encompasses acting, singing, dancing, stage combat, jests, and improvisation. Within the vibrant masks and impeccable skills of the performers, a concoction of playfulness, inventiveness, love, fear, and drama unfolds.
The storyline intricately weaves misunderstandings, plot twists, and a surreal, fantastical world, promising moments that evoke both smiles and subtle intrigue.
This rendition, inspired by Luigi Riccoboni’s plot “Arlequin muet par crainte“, brings a unique flavor to the stage. Directed by Marco Zoppello, the cast includes Sara Allevi, Matteo Cremon, Anna De Franceschi, Michele Mori, and other talented artists. With enchanting scenography by Alberto Nonnato, stunning costumes by Licia Lucchese, and captivating lighting by Matteo Pozzobon and Paolo Pollo Rodighiero, the production promises an immersive experience in the golden age of Italian theater.
