With the support of Gagosian and the collaboration of the Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio for the City of Venice and the Lagoon, curated by Gabriella Belli and Janne Sirén, Palazzo Ducale presents an exhibition of contemporary art by the German artist Anselm Kiefer.
The exhibition, which will last until October 29, 2022, is the focus of the fifth edition of “MUVE Contemporaneo“, the biennial exhibition of the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, which focuses on the relationship between today’s art and museums.
Kiefer’s exhibition is set up with the seal of a title taken from the writings of the Venetian philosopher Andrea Emo: “Questi scritti, quando verranno bruciati, daranno finalmente un po’ di luce” (These writings, when they are burned, will finally give a little light).
The decision to host Kiefer’s work inside the Doge’s Palace dates back to 2019 and aims to measure the ability of this place -symbol of the Serenissima Republic- to still be a center of living culture and not just memory.
