As part of the Cycle Bizet, L’oiseau Rebelle, the Palazzetto Bru Zane invites you to an evening, the “Bizet and transcription” recital, dedicated to Georges Bizet’s artistry and his role as a master of transcription. Nathanaël Gouin, a virtuoso pianist of international acclaim, will take the stage to explore Bizet’s fascinating creative journey through transcription and adaptation.
Before achieving fame with his own works, Bizet honed his craft by creating transcriptions and reductions for voice and piano, often for the Choudens publishing house. These efforts not only connected him with leading artists of the time but also shaped his compositional voice. This concert highlights Bizet’s lesser-known piano pieces, including the charming Venise (originally Nadir’s aria from Les Pêcheurs de perles), as well as arrangements of music by Gounod and Saint-Saëns.
Program Highlights:
- Charles GOUNOD: Six Choruses (extracts)
- Georges BIZET:
- Nocturne en ré majeur
- Romances sans paroles
- La Chasse fantastique
- Entracte de Carmen
- Paraphrase sur le chœur des petits soldats de Carmen
- Camille SAINT-SAËNS: Piano Concerto No. 2
Through Gouin’s nuanced performance, this concert will illuminate Bizet’s dual identity as a composer and an interpreter of others’ works. Join an evening of musical brilliance, where transcription becomes an art form in its own right.
