On Sunday, December 1, 2024, the Ex Novo Ensemble will perform the concert “Melodie udite e inaudite” (Heard and Unheard Melodies) in the beautiful Sale Apollinee of La Fenice Opera House. This performance is part of the Ex Novo Musica Festival and will showcase a curated selection of works that explore the evolution of modern music, as well as the timeless influence of past composers.
The Ex Novo Ensemble, featuring Daniele Ruggieri on flute, Davide Teodoro on clarinets, Carlo Lazari and Sara Mazzarotto on violins, Paola Carraro on viola, and Carlo Teodoro on cello, brings together some of Venice’s finest musicians. This ensemble is renowned for its dedication to contemporary music and its innovative interpretations that bridge the gap between tradition and the avant-garde.
The theme of this year’s festival is inspired by a symbolic passing of the torch in 1924—the year that marked both Ferruccio Busoni’s death and Luigi Nono’s birth. Although Nono’s music will not be performed in this concert, his legacy resonates through the evening’s selections, which celebrate composers he admired and supported. This includes works by Salvatore Sciarrino and Claudio Ambrosini, both of whom were inspired by Nono’s passion for redefining music’s role in culture and society. Alongside their works, pieces by Giorgio Federico Ghedini, Giacinto Scelsi, Robert Schumann, and Ferruccio Busoni will offer a rich tapestry of sounds, textures, and timbral innovations.
Join the Ex Novo Ensemble for an evening that promises to transport audiences through a diverse musical landscape, celebrating both historical depth and contemporary innovation.
