La Traviata at La Fenice Opera House

To mark the twentieth anniversary of its iconic staging, Fondazione Teatro La Fenice will present Giuseppe Verdi’s “La Traviata” at the La Fenice Opera House from November 22 to 30, 2024. This timeless masterpiece, based on Alexandre Dumas’ novel La Dame aux Camélias, tells the tragic love story between the Parisian courtesan Violetta Valéry and the young nobleman Alfredo Germont, set against the backdrop of 19th-century societal expectations and personal sacrifice.

The production will be led by conductor Diego Matheuz, with the Teatro La Fenice Orchestra and Chorus under the direction of chorus master Alfonso Caiani. Directed by Robert Carsen—with the direction resumed by Christophe Gayral—the acclaimed staging features Patrick Kinmonth’s elegant sets and costumes, and choreography by Philippe Giraudeau.

The artistic cast includes Marina Monzò as the ill-fated Violetta Valéry, Francesco Demuro as her passionate lover Alfredo Germont, and Nicola Alaimo as Giorgio Germont, Alfredo’s disapproving father. Other roles will be performed by Loriana Castellano (Flora), Barbara Massaro (Annina), Roberto Covatta (Gastone), Armando Gabba (Baron Douphol), Matteo Ferrara (Marquis d’Obigny), and Rocco Cavalluzzi (Doctor Grenvil).

With its unforgettable music and poignant story of love and sacrifice, “La Traviata” remains one of Verdi’s most beloved operas, and this special anniversary production at La Fenice promises to be an emotional and unforgettable experience.
