The 38th edition of the Venice Marathon is set to captivate runners and spectators alike on Sunday, October 27, 2024, following the great success of the previous year’s event. As part of the Abbott World Marathon Majors Wanda Age Group World Ranking and recognized with the World Athletics label and FIDAL’s Gold Label, the Venice Marathon is celebrated as a premier global marathon event.
The race begins in the charming setting of Villa Pisani in Stra, a masterpiece of Venetian architecture that graciously opens its gates to marathon runners. The early part of the marathon leads participants along the scenic Riviera del Brenta, where historic Venetian villas line the route, offering a stunning backdrop rich in cultural and landscape significance.
As the marathon progresses, runners pass through Marghera and Mestre, with a notable stretch through the innovative M9 Museum. The race then meanders through the expansive San Giuliano Park before crossing the iconic Ponte della Libertà, a nearly 4-kilometer stretch that leads directly to Venice.
In Venice, the marathon route transforms into an unforgettable experience as athletes run alongside the Giudecca Canal, cross the Grand Canal on a specially constructed floating bridge, and pass through the heart of Venice, including Piazza San Marco, with its breathtaking views of the Bell Tower and the Doge’s Palace. The finish line awaits at Riva Sette Martiri, where runners can celebrate their achievement.
With its flat and fast course, the Venice Marathon presents only a few challenges, including short uphill sections and 14 small bridges in the final kilometers. Despite these obstacles, the marathon continues to enchant both athletes and spectators, making it a must-run event in the marathon world.
