In collaboration with the musical association Musikàmera, the quartet of Giulia Semenzato (soprano), Stefano Favretto (violin), Gianluca Geremia (theorbo), and Francesco Erle (harpsichord) will present the concert “Veneziane Regine e Imperatrici” on October 22, 2024, in the Sale Apollinee of the La Fenice Opera House. This event promises to transport the audience into the world of regal female figures in Baroque opera, featuring arias, ritornelli, and sinfonias that tell the stories of powerful women like Poppea, Elena, Berenice, Artemisia, Dido, Ermelinda, Adelaide, and Statira.
The program will include both famous and unpublished works by Claudio Monteverdi, Francesco Cavalli, Domenico Freschi, Carlo Grossi, and Antonio Sartorio, all sourced from the Contarini Collection of the Marciana Library in Venice. These pieces highlight the richness of Baroque music, particularly focusing on the portrayal of queens and empresses through dramatic arias and elegant instrumental music.
Giulia Semenzato, an accomplished soprano known for her interpretations of Baroque and early music, will lend her voice to these historic and emotionally charged roles, accompanied by Stefano Favretto on violin, Gianluca Geremia on theorbo, and Francesco Erle on harpsichord—each contributing their period expertise to recreate the intimate and expressive sound world of the 17th and 18th centuries.
This concert is a unique opportunity to experience rarely heard music in the historic setting of La Fenice’s Sale Apollinee, and to explore the fascinating lives of regal women through the beauty of Venetian Baroque opera.
