The 14th edition of the Callido Nacchini Festival begins on Friday, September 6, at 9:00 p.m., featuring a series of free concerts in various Venetian churches and basilicas. This festival, under the artistic direction of Nicolò Sari, showcases international musicians performing on Venice’s precious 18th-century organs. Organized by the Alessandro Marcello Association, the festival is supported by the Venice Foundation, the Vittorio Cini Archive Foundation, and Asolo Musica, and is part of the Municipality of Venice’s “Le Città in Festa” project.
The festival’s opening concerts will take place in the Church of San Trovaso and the Basilica of San Giorgio Maggiore, featuring French organist Luc Paganon and Portuguese tenor João Aurelio. The festival continues with performances by the “L’Accordo” trio in San Pantalon, exploring the largest canvas ceiling in the world, and a concert by Fabio Ciofini in San Giorgio Maggiore.
On September 20 and 21, the “Seraphim” duo will present a tribute to Venice with works by Venetian and foreign composers, honoring Lisa Paola Rubelli and Vittorio Cini. The festival concludes with a three-day event, featuring a concert for two organs and trumpet in the Basilica dei Frari, followed by an organ and trumpet concert in San Giorgio Maggiore. The final “promenade” concert will guide the audience through the artistic and musical treasures of San Nicolò dei Mendicoli, San Sebastiano, and Carmini, led by young organists Pierluigi Mazzoni and Giovanni Gianola, under the insightful guidance of Prof. Paolo Pistellato.
