From 13 to 22 September 2024, La Fenice Opera House will stage two remarkable works: “La Fabbrica Illuminata” (The Illuminated Factory) by Luigi Nono, featuring soprano Valentina Corò, and “Erwartung” (Expectation) by Arnold Schönberg, featuring the woman Heidi Melton. This new staging commemorates the 100th anniversary of Luigi Nono’s birth and the 150th anniversary of Arnold Schönberg’s birth.
The La Fenice Theater Orchestra will be under the baton of conductor Jérémie Rhorer, with direction by Daniele Abbado. Angelo Linzalata will serve as the scenes and light designer, with costumes by Giada Masi and choreographic movements by Riccardo Micheletti. Sound direction will be managed by Alvise Vidolin.
“La Fabbrica Illuminata” by Luigi Nono is a powerful piece that melds music with social and political themes, reflecting Nono’s deep engagement with contemporary issues. Soprano Valentina Corò’s performance promises to bring a poignant intensity to the work, amplifying its resonant message.
“Erwartung” by Arnold Schönberg, an intense monodrama, delves into the psyche of a woman searching for her lover in a forest. Heidi Melton’s portrayal of this emotionally charged role will explore the depths of human despair and longing, set against Schönberg’s intricate and expressive score.
This dual presentation at La Fenice not only honors the legacies of Nono and Schönberg but also showcases the collaborative efforts of a talented production team. Join this unique celebration of two influential composers whose works continue to inspire and challenge.
