The exhibition “Waterproof Venice – A Tale of Images”, organized by the Venice World Sustainability Capital Foundation (VSF) and curated by Jacopo Galli and Marco Marino, is on display at Tesa 66 in Arsenale Nord until 6 October 2024. This exhibition is a testament to the transformative year of 2024, marking the beginning of the MOSE system’s normal functioning and opening a new chapter in the history of the Venetian Lagoon.
With the MOSE infrastructure now fully operational, it paves the way for innovative and sustainable projects involving public and private partners. These collective efforts aim to craft a sustainable future for Venice, integrating ecological resilience, economic growth, and enhanced quality of life.
“Waterproof Venice” stands as an original conceptual installation that utilizes Artificial Intelligence to explore and represent various initiatives and aspirations fostered by the VSF. The exhibition captures a wide array of projects and knowledge that embody the foundation’s vision for a sustainable and resilient Venice.
Venice, along with its lagoon, is now seen as a vast experimental laboratory where innovative ecological transition solutions and sustainable urban development strategies are tested. These solutions aim to balance low ecological impact with economic prosperity and enhanced living standards, all while fostering creativity.
The images and contributions displayed in “Waterproof Venice” are derived from initiatives proposed by a diverse group of stakeholders, including the Veneto Region, Municipality of Venice, Ca’ Foscari University, Iuav University of Venice, and many others. The involvement of major entities like Eni, Amazon Web Services, Fincantieri, and Sanlorenzo, among others, highlights the collaborative effort to achieve sustainability.
This exhibition paints a lively and intricate picture, demonstrating a vibrant dialogue among the various actors involved. It aligns with the ambitious goal of creating an integrated model of sustainable development for Venice, serving as a source of inspiration for innovative sustainability practices globally. “Waterproof Venice” is a vivid narrative of resilience and forward-thinking, showcasing Venice as a beacon of sustainable innovation.
