The turn of a century

“The Thread of Fauré” continues with an enchanting concert titled “The Turn of a Century“, unfolding at the Scuola Grande San Giovanni Evangelista on March 23, 2024.

Delve into the masterpieces of Gabriel Fauré and his esteemed student, Roger-Ducasse, as the Quatour Strada, comprising Pierre Fouchenneret (violin), Sarah Nemtanu (violin), Lise Berthaud (viola), François Salque (cello), accompanied by Simon Zaoui (piano), breathe life into a captivating fusion of strings and piano compositions.

Roger-Ducasse, a pivotal figure in the passing of the musical baton from Fauré to the next generation, embodies the essence of this concert. As a student in Fauré’s composition class and the founder of the Société musicale indépendante, his connection to Fauré was profound. In homage to his mentor, Roger-Ducasse dedicated his first string quartet to Fauré and later succeeded him as a composition professor, nurturing Fauré’s teachings well into the 20th century.

This concert harmonizes the Quintet for piano and orchestra No. 1 by Fauré with the Quartet for piano and orchestra No. 1 by Roger-Ducasse, a captivating dialogue between mentor and student, as portrayed through the skillful performance of Quatuor Strada and Simon Zaoui.

Experience this magnificent convergence of musical lineage and artistic brilliance, celebrating the interconnectedness of two maestros across generations. Join us for an evening poised to capture the essence of a bygone era while echoing the promises of the future, all woven into the vibrant tapestry of classical mastery.
