The Lino Tagliapietra Foundation, in collaboration with the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, presents the breathtaking exhibition “Lino Tagliapietra. L’origine del viaggio” (The Origin of Travel). This awe-inspiring showcase pays tribute to the legendary artist, Lino Tagliapietra, a traveler, experimenter, and master of glass, who constantly sought inspiration to infuse into his exquisite works, transforming them into magnificent expressions of beauty.
Now, until September 25, 2023, the Ca’ Rezzonico Museum in Venice is home to this extraordinary journey, featuring 21 mesmerizing works that span the past three decades of Tagliapietra’s artistry. The exhibition, thoughtfully curated by architect Chiara Lamonarca, guides visitors through the renovated rooms, creating a profound dialogue between the contemporary glass masterpieces and the surrounding 18th-century treasures.
The exhibition showcases iconic works such as “Dinosaur with a long-limbed neck,” “Fuji,” “Asola,” “Niomea,” “Oca,” “Africa,” and “Hopi,” which masterfully demonstrate traditional Murano glass techniques like blown glass with rods, filigree, murrine, incalmo, and extraordinary skills like double blowing, beating, and grinding.
Additionally, visitors can revel in the intricacy and brilliance of the two-dimensional glass paintings. Named after places dear to the artist, like “Finestra sul campiello,” “Ponticello,” and “Rio Grande,” these panels reveal Lino Tagliapietra’s deep passions, including his admiration for Mark Rothko’s paintings. These exceptional works, made with glass grit and solid glass inserts or crafted with canes and zanfirico murrine, showcase the boundless creativity and experimentation that defines Tagliapietra’s artistic spirit.
The exhibition reaches its crescendo with the breathtaking “Judith” panel, a glass altarpiece that stands as a testimony of gratitude for a life devoted to the art of glass and its vibrant colors.
A true master of his craft, Lino Tagliapietra’s journey from a young Murano apprentice to a pioneering artist in the United States has forever changed the landscape of glass art. With unbridled passion and an unyielding curiosity, he has left an indelible mark on the world of glassblowing, fusing Italian tradition with a new, vibrant energy. Don’t miss the chance to be immersed in the brilliance of Lino Tagliapietra’s artistic legacy at this extraordinary exhibition.
