From Feb. 10 to 18, Domenico Cimarosa’s opera “Il matrimonio segreto” will be staged at La Fenice Theater.
Cimarosa’s only work still performed regularly, it is perhaps among the best comic operas of the 18th century. This opera with music by the Neapolitan composer to a libretto by Giovanni Bertati consists of two acts based on the play “The Clandestine Marriage” by George Colman and David Garrick (1776). The protagonist is the wealthy Bolognese merchant Geronimo, a social climber whose family includes his daughters Elisetta and Carolina, his sister Fidalma, and his secretary Paolino, Carolina’s secret husband. Before true love triumphs, many misunderstandings and twists occur. The debut took place on February 7, 1792, at the Viennese Hofburg Theater in the presence of Emperor Leopold II.

The technical cast includes: conductor Alvise Casellati, director Luca De Fusco, sets and costumes Marta Crisolini Malatesta, light designer Gigi Saccomandi, projection designer Alessandro Papa, set designs Laura Farina, Orchestra and Chorus of Teatro La Fenice.
