House of us - Irina Brook

The performance “House of Us” is a project conceived by Irina Brook, innovative in content and implementation practice. “Part I – the Mother” is staged from Nov. 29 to Dec. 11, 2022 in the prestigious venue of the Casa dei Tre Oci on Giudecca Island with a production by the Teatro Stabile del Veneto.

The director brings to life the fascinating rooms of the palace in a kind of intimate diary in which the audience is invited to explore the rooms of a house, a metaphor for the artist’s life. These rooms contain a variety of images, objects and personal memories, visual installations and soundscapes. The audience traverses different spaces permeated with poetic images that evoke memories of Irina’s mother, actress Natasha Perry, who passed away in 2015.

In the theatrical heart of this House of Us, the 11 newly graduated actors of the “Carlo GoldoniTheater Academy will live in transparent and ephemeral dressing rooms, where we will be able to observe them in their most intimate state of mind as they rehearse Čechov’s key dialogues. Along the way, viewers will meet a mythical character, actor Geoffrey Carey, who represents the spirit of the Theater and Irina’s mother. The walk will culminate in the “room of the seagull” where two young actors will perform the last scene of the famous Chekhovian opera. The walk will end with two videos projecting symbolic images made in Irina Brook’s home. They are images that represent a sense of liberation from the burden of the past and an open door to the future.
