Jazz returns to the Teatro La Fenice in Venice with a special evening by Veneto Jazz as part of the 14th edition of the Venice Jazz Festival. “A great jazz night” is the title of the special event scheduled for July 13 (starting at 8 pm), featuring a double concert with Richard Galliano (first part) and Hermeto Pascoal Grupo & Friends, with guests Gabriele Mirabassi and other artists (second part). This is a unique opportunity to hear some of the international stars of jazz and Brazilian music, rarely in Italy and especially in such unusual ensembles. An evening in which there will be no lack of surprises, with extraordinary musicians who have written the history of this musical genre.
Always seeking new inspiration, accordionist and composer Richard Galliano continues to tirelessly rewrite the history of the accordion. In Venice he will present an accordion recital, featuring works by Debussy, Satie, Chopin, Granados, Michel Legrand, Astor Piazzolla, and, of course his own compositions, interwoven with other beloved musicians including Gabriele Mirabassi, one of Italy’s leading clarinetists.
A living icon of Brazilian music, Hermeto Pascoal is a multi-instrumentalist, a mentor to many musicians such as Milton Nascimento, Airto Moreira and Flora Purim, but also an inspiration to great jazz musicians, including Miles Davis and John McLaughlin. With him on stage are Fabio Pascoal on percussion, Itiberê Zwarg on bass and vocals, André Marques on piano, Jota P. on sax and flutes, and Ajurinã Zwarg (Itiberê’s son) on drums. Hermeto Pascoal plays keyboard, flute, accordion, melodica and …everything else!
