In collaboration with the Archivio Afro Foundation and curated by Elisabetta Barisoni and Edith Devaney, as part of MUVE Contemporaneo, the International Gallery of Modern Art Ca’ Pesaro presents “Afro 1950-1970 From Italy to America and back” until October 23, 2022.
The exhibition is dedicated to one of the great protagonists of Italian painting of the second half of the twentieth century. America was for Afro Basaldella a great field of testing, and meetings with the team of the New York school, such as Pollock, De Kooning, Gorky.
With forty-five masterpieces, coming from international collections and museums, Venice pays homage to an artist who is well represented in the Ca’ Pesaro collections, exploring the relationship that was established in the 1950s between Italian art and American art of abstract expressionism and action painting.
